History
Advantage began in 1963. At the time, it was called “Three Ninety-Nine Car Rentals.” It functioned to service the military servicemen and their families in San Antonio, Texas. They slowly branched out across the United States and began serving the entire population. They also opened airport locations at all of the major international airports and some regional locations. In 1985, the company’s name changed to “Advantage Rent A Car.” After the beginning of the 1990 decade, Advantage expanded further throughout the United States, focusing on the west. Their goal was to entice leisure travelers in the warmer parts of the country to rent cars from them. Advantage’s biggest turning point was in 2001, when they launched an affiliate partnership that expanded their operation even further into foreign markets. Eventually, they expanded into a total of 33 other countries. In 2008, Advantage Rent A Car filed a petition for bankruptcy and was purchased later in 2009 by the Hertz Corporation, so it is no longer an independently-operated rental car business. However, it still retains the name and the original business values on which it was founded.

The prices at Advantage are already lower than average, but they do offer customers the opportunity to save even more. From time to time, Advantage has special sales for certain locations. For example, they may decide to offer a $8/day special in one of their airport locations. It is usually always better to rent from an airport location if this is an option, as the rates have a lower average. Advantage also accepts coupons and discount codes obtained online or sent by signing up for their email newsletters. Repeat customers are offered specials and promotions, based on the nature of their travel. There are discounts for family leisure travelers, as well as business and corporate groups and military personnel.
Rental Policies
In order to rent a vehicle from Advantage, drivers will need to possess a valid state-issued driver’s license in the United States. International driver’s licenses are accepted in foreign countries, along with local equivalents. Since Advantage doesn’t accept all types of credit cards, travelers are advised to use a MasterCard or Visa to make their reservation. At the time of return, a vehicle can be charged on a debit card or paid in cash in most locations. Reserving on a debit card is not always guaranteed; drivers who only have this option should call the specific location beforehand to learn about their individual policy on this matter. The charge card or debit card used must be in the main driver’s name. Additional drivers can be added for a fee, assuming they meet the requirements for renting also. Drivers must be at least 21 years of age to rent. Those who are under age 25 and over age 21 will be subject to a flat fee of $15.00 per day, which is subject to change at any time. Drivers are also encouraged to purchase collision insurance, which will relieve them of financial responsibility in an accident, up to the specified amount. Drivers who do not have their own personal insurance should buy this, as it is a state requirement in every area of the USA. Some locations that are close to Mexico allow cars to be driven there; drivers can also purchase a Mexican insurance policy from Advantage for special trips such as this.
