Beautiful San Francisco
Located on Northern California’s coast, San Francisco has a golden history. Home to the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and Fisherman’s Wharf, San Francisco has many tourist destinations for any time of year.
One of the things to see in San Francisco is the famous Golden Gate Bridge which crosses the inlet in San Francisco Bay. This suspension bridge, which crosses the golden gate was the longest suspension bridge in the world when it was built in 1937 and was a wonder of its time. By many, it is considered the symbol of San Francisco and is one of the world’s most photographed bridges.
Another place to visit while in the city is Fisherman’s Wharf. Here you can be a part of the eclectic culture that is San Francisco. Here you can experience shopping at Ghiradelli Square and enjoy a bowl of famous clam chowder while people watching. You can catch ferries to Alcatraz Island, Angel Island and cruise under the Golden Gate Bridge, as well as pay a visit to the Aquarium of the Bay and tour the U.S.S. Pampanito, a submarine from World War II.
No visit to San Francisco is complete without a tour of its famous island prison, Alcatraz. Due to its strategic location in the middle of San Francisco Bay, it was the prison with the least amount of escapees. Not only is it the site of the famous prison, but also the first lighthouse on the West Coast, and the first fortress. It is also home to many tide pools, bird colonies, gardens, and spectacular views of the city.
While in the city, take time to take a ride on one of the famous street cars and take a drive down Lombard street, one of the steepest streets in the world, known for its hairpin curves.
